🚀 Physics Wallah: From YouTube to Unicorn

In 2020, Alakh Pandey, a passionate physics teacher from Prayagraj, was uploading free classes on YouTube from a small room. With just a whiteboard, marker, and an old phone camera, he made physics fun and accessible for students preparing for IIT-JEE and NEET.

What started as a one-man YouTube channel soon gained massive traction during the pandemic, as millions of students, stuck at home, turned to online learning. Alakh's teaching style — simple Hindi, jokes, and deep clarity — resonated with India’s small-town students who couldn’t afford expensive coaching.

In 2021, he officially launched the Physics Wallah app with affordable courses starting as low as ₹999. Unlike big ed-techs charging lakhs, PW focused on quality + affordability.

By 2022, PW became India’s 101st unicorn, valued at $1.1 billion, with over 10 million downloads and thousands of success stories. Alakh Pandey — once a dropout struggling to pay rent — had built an empire from scratch.

What sets PW apart? It stayed rooted in its mission: Education for Bharat, not just India.
